Docia Schultz Williams is a professional writer, lecturer, and a certified professional tour guide who makes her home in San Antonio. A “real” Texan, her family roots in Texas go back to the 1840’s.
A graduate of Texas Woman’s University, she also studied archeology at the University of Texas and Tour Management at Our Lady of the Lake University. A world traveler, she has conducted tours in 49 states and many foreign destinations including Europe, Africa, China, Canada and Mexico. She is a veteran of over fifty cruises. She resided a number of years in Norfolk County, England and Madrid, Spain where she pursued her interests in history, antiques and the fine arts.

Co-author of the book, Spirits of San Antonio, she is also the author of When Darkness Falls, Phantoms of the Plains, Best Tales of Texas Ghosts, Ghosts Along the Texas Coast, Exploring San Antonio with Children, and The History of the Menger Hotel. In 1990 she originated the “Spirits of San Antonio” night time tour featuring some of the most haunted spots in town, which in 2000 received the prestigious “Gemmy” award from the Midwest Travel Writers Association as being one of the country’s truly unique travel experiences. In 1995 she appeared in a video film produced by the San Antonio Convention and Visitor’s Bureau that was aired all over the United States. She has been featured on most of San Antonio’s TV stations at various times, as well as “Around South Texas” and “The Eyes of Texas,” both statewide shows. National credits include appearances on the Sci-Fi, Discovery, Travel and History Channels, British BBC, and Fox National News. In October 1999, she was featured in a one hour special, “Haunted San Antonio” filmed by the History Channel. She is a popular talk show guest on many of San Antonio's radio stations. She has served on the Speaker's Platform committee for the San Antonio Conservation Society and has written numerous articles for the Conservation Society Journal.
A frequent club and convention speaker, Williams appears in many Texas cities. She has been a featured enrichment speaker for the Norwegian Cruise Line. Her poetry and stories appear in numerous anthologies. She is a member of the San Antonio Writer's Guild, National Society of Arts and Letters, Gemini Ink, San Antonio Historical Society, Leon Valley Historical Society, San Antonio Conservation Society, Society for the Perservation of Historic Fort Sam Houston and Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1973, she was named one of the Ten Outstanding Women in San Antonio by the San Antonio Express News Publishing Company as "Church Woman of the Year." She served as president of the American Women's Club of Madrid, Spain in 1967-68, San Antonio Chapter, National Society of Arts and Letters, San Antonio Council of Delphian Chapters, and in 1982-84 served as National President of the Texas Womans University Association of Former Students. She is a charter member of the San Antonio Professional Tour Guide's Association.
At the annual 2004 “Hospy” Ball, she was the recipient of the coveted “Spirit of San Antonio” award presented by the San Antonio Hotel and Lodgings Association for outstanding contributions to the tourism and hospitality industries. She received the 2004 Entrepreneurial Spirit Award in the category of “Innovator” from the San Antonio Chapter, National Association of Women Business Owners. In December 2004, she was honored by her peers in the San Antonio Professional Tour Guides Association for her distinguished service. In October, 2007, she was honored in her hometown of Garland, Texas, with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Garland High School at the All Classes reunion. She is listed in the Marquis Guide of "Who's Who of American Women," and "Who's Who in America." She is also listed in the Cambridge Guides of outstanding leaders. She maintains a busy schedule as a tour guide, writer and lecturer. She also received the 2009 Legacy Award from the Professional Tour Guide Association.
Docia Williams is married to Lt. Roy D. Williams, Texas Department of Public Safety, retired, and has one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Thaxton.
