 Volume  #98

February 3, 2010

    No. 46
     Featured Speaker:

Andy Cockrum

Producer/Director/Cameraman/Editor

“Team Everest: A Himalayan Journey”

Chair of the Day:  Amy Contreras

With over 15 years in the film and television industry, Andy has worked as an editor and special effects compositor on a vast array of projects for local, national, and international clients. In addition to his own film projects, Andy has worked in editorial and visual effects for several Robert Rodriguez films, including "Spy Kids 2," "Spy Kids 3D," and "Sin City." Andy has also been associate editor on the feature films "Master of the Game" and "Screen Door Jesus, " and he recently produced and directed a television pilot entitled "The Monkey Project." Team Everest represents Andy's first feature-length documentary film, and he is currently beginning two new exciting documentary projects, including "Swim the Strait,” a film chronicling the efforts of two swimmers to raise funds for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars

Team Everest: A Himalayan Journey chronicles a remarkable group of trekkers on an expedition to the world’s highest mountain. If they succeed in their quest, the team will be the largest group of people with disabilities ever to reach Mount Everest Base Camp.

Five men in wheelchairs and their teammates—representing a range of disabilities—trek 21 days through the high Himalaya. From their departure in the Sherpa village of Lukla, the team will attempt to reach an altitude of over 17,500 feet in one of the most inaccessible regions on earth.

Our condolences to Trip Worden on the death of his stepfather Leo Charles Hearn.  Mr. Hearn passed away suddenly on January 23.

Congratulations to Rotarian Bob King on maintaining 60 years of perfect attendance.  Bob is with Richmond, Virginia Rotary club but has a home in San Antonio and visits our club often.

That is an amazing accomplishment!  Congratulations, Bob!  We hope to see you in SA very soon.
