 Volume  #98

February 24, 2010

    No. 35
     Featured Speaker:

Robert N. Schnitzler, MD

Schnitzler Cardiovascular Consultants, PLLC

“The Latest on Cardiovascular Care”

Chair of the Day:  Dr. Linda Ellsworth

When patients have medical emergencies in the middle of the night, they often find Dr. Robert N. Schnitzler, F.A.C.C, F.A.C.P, F.S.C.A.I., F.C.C.P., F.H.R.S., F.A.H.A., by their bedside caring for them through the crisis.  A cardiovascular specialist who pioneered dozens of cardiology firsts, Dr. Schnitzler is equally committed to providing patients with attentive care to help recover from life-threatening emergencies and prevent future problems.

Dr. Schnitzler is a nationally renowned authority in the field of electrophysiology.  One of the first physicians certified in cardiac electrophysiology, Schnitzler has spent more than 30 years investigating new ways to treat dysrhythmias, congestive heart failure and hypertension.

He has had the status of clinical professor of medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and previously served as chief of staff for the Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital.

To provide a complete overview of a patient’s cardiovascular system, Schnitzler uses San Antonio’s most advanced facilities for diagnostic testing, then applies state-of-the-art techniques to solve problems like blocked arteries and irregular heart rhythms.

A desire to focus on prevention prompted Dr. Schnitzler to open the San Antonio Wellness Institute, which provides comprehensive medial evaluation and preventive strategies to help patients improve and maintain their overall health.  Patients undergo in-depth diagnostic testing and consultation over a three– to four-day period with multiple physicians, including Schnitzler.  Then the team creates a wellness program specifically designed to match each patient’s clinical needs.  “I want to be there for my patients when they are ill,” he adds.  ‘Giving patients that access to me as their personal physician is extraordinarily important to me.”

Donate Your Old Eye Glasses

For many, the new year means a new look.  Don’t throw out those old eye glasses!  Bring your old glasses to any Rotary meeting or drop them off at the Rotary office.  Rotarian Dr. Tom Ayres will have the glasses refurbished and donated to a world-wide vision mission.

GSE Hosts Needed

Group Study Exchange (GSE) is a Rotary International program for adult professionals.  Districts partner to exchange teams as a vocational study opportunity.  This year’s team is from the Philippines.  They will be visiting the club on April 21 and staying for a few days.

Rotarians are needed to host these team members for a night or two during their stay.  There are four team members and a team leader.  Five host families are needed.  The team will be busy all day with vocational activities and sight seeing.  You’ll be asked to give them a place to sleep, breakfast and drop them off in the morning.  If you’re interested in hosting, contact the Rotary office at 222-8242, x101.

Rotary Profile

With over 500 members, it’s difficult to know everyone.  To help more Rotarians connect in business and personally, the board has created a Random Rotary Profile.

There are 14 questions on the form.  Fill out as many as you want and send it back to the Rotary office.  We’ll select profiles randomly and publish them on the website (with your approval) and in the Wheel.

We’ll email the form with the next Wheel or you can pick it up in the Rotary office or download it from the website:  Profile Form
