OVERVIEW
The Rotary Club of San Antonio will mark the publication of The Austin–San Antonio Megaregion: Opportunity and Challenge in the Lone Star State—a new book by Henry Cisneros—with a visit and talk by the former San Antonio Mayor at the October 1 luncheon. Cisneros' talk will examine how our region's surge in population, employment, new business starts, and infrastructure demands may impact our future.
Co-authored by Robert Rivard (bigcitysmalltown podcast host and former editor of the San Antonio Express-News) and and David Hendricks (former business editor and columnist at the San Antonio Express-News), The Austin-San Antonio Megaregion explores the unprecedented growth occurring along the urban corridor linking Austin and San Antonio.
With questions like “Is this much growth actually good for the region?” and “If it is, are we prepared for it?” the authors encourage an honest look at the challenges and opportunities ahead. The book offers a vision for sustaining economic vitality while protecting quality of life, supported by facts, data, and forward-looking scenarios.
“The task before us is not easy, but it can be done,” the authors write in their preface. “It is not a matter of liberal or conservative politics, of red or blue ideologies; it is a matter of realistic leadership and practical public consensus.”
