A Celebration of Service and New Beginnings: Rotary SA’s Annual Transition Meeting

The Rotary Club of San Antonio assembled July 9 for a special Wednesday luncheon meeting marking the official transition of club leadership—from outgoing President Steve Darling to incoming President Kelley Frost. The event was a joyful blend of celebration, gratitude, humor, and forward-looking optimism.
After a moment of silence for those affected by the recent Kerrville flooding, the meeting opened with heartfelt reflections and recognition of a remarkable year of service under President Steve’s leadership. In his second term—a rare and commendable commitment—Steve helped guide the club through a record-setting year, including:
- The construction of two new playgrounds,
- Fundraising success at the Rotary Ice Rink,
- Continued investment in youth programs and international partnerships,
- The launch of a fresh, modern club website,
- And a strong speaker lineup featuring civic leaders and innovators.
The celebration included a musical tribute (“Oh, Steve Darling”) by Past President Rick Cavender and a humorous “roast” by Past President Paul Garro.
Steve was honored with a plaque, a past-president pin, and deep appreciation for his steadfast servant leadership. He also scored some well-earned gifts including bourbon, cigars, and a commemorative chess board.
Enter President Kelley Frost
Incoming President Kelley Frost was formally installed, along with her 2025–2026 Board of Directors. In her remarks, Kelley introduced the year’s theme: VIVA Rotary!—an acronym that will guide the year ahead:
- Visionary: Seek bold, meaningful ways to connect with our community.
- Inviting: Prioritize growth through intentional member engagement.
- Vibrant: Create multiple pathways for involvement—from service to socials.
- Action: Live out Rotary’s mission by showing up, giving back, and making a difference.
“We are people of action,” Kelley reminded the club. “Let’s be bold, let’s be visible, and let’s celebrate what makes this club extraordinary.”
Here’s to a vibrant year ahead—VIVA Rotary!
