The San Antonio Rotary Club Swings into Action at the Valero Texas Open

April 7, 2025
Fundraiser

Each spring, the Valero Texas Open offers the Rotary Club of San Antonio one of its most unique and high-impact opportunities to serve the community—and 2025 was no exception. Over five days, volunteers from our club (and friends of Rotary) took on the significant task of running two concession stands at the TPC golf course, operating not just as volunteers, but as the frontline hospitality team for thousands of golf fans. This initiative, organized primarily by our Young Members Board and spearheaded by Nick Warrington, represents one of our club’s most successful service projects of the year.

A total of 74 volunteers filled 138 shifts, contributing a remarkable 1,078 hours of service. From preparing and serving hot food and cold drinks to managing cashless transactions and encouraging generous tipping—all while upholding a professional and friendly demeanor—our volunteers kept pace with the tournament’s demanding schedule. In return for this dedicated effort, our club earned a percentage of revenue from the booths and retained all tips collected, culminating in an impressive $10,161.60 raised. While slightly below previous years due to the overlap with the NCAA Final Four, this result is still a strong testament to the hard work and coordination that went into the week.

The funds raised will go directly toward community service projects supported by the Rotary Club of San Antonio and our Young Members Board. These include initiatives such as Kingdom for Kids, youth scholarships, beds for children through Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and many others that align with Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self.” Each dollar raised at the Valero Texas Open translates into tangible impact for those in need throughout the greater San Antonio area.

Beyond the financial contribution, the event also fosters community, camaraderie, and visibility for Rotary. Volunteers not only gave their time but also represented Rotary values to thousands of attendees. Many non-members who joined us for the event were introduced to the club’s mission in action and invited to learn more about becoming part of this vibrant community of service-minded individuals.

On behalf of the entire Rotary Club of San Antonio, we extend our deepest gratitude to every volunteer who showed up, worked hard, and made this effort a success. Special thanks go to our main coordinators, Nick Warrington and the rest of the Young Members Board, for their outstanding leadership and tireless communication throughout. Organizing a team of this scale, across multiple days and locations, is no small feat—and their work made the experience smooth, productive, and even fun.

We are proud of what we accomplished together, and we look forward to building on this success in 2026. Save the date: the next Valero Texas Open is March 30–April 5, 2026. See you on the course!
